Every few months, a new model drops. More parameters. Longer context windows. Better benchmarks. And developers rush to integrate it. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: Most AI apps don’t fail because the model isn’t powerful enough. They fail because the system isn’t stable. There’s a difference. Bigger Models Improve Output Quality Stable Systems Improve Decision Quality A larger model can: Write cleaner code Generate better text Solve harder reasoning tasks Pass more benchmarks But it still: Resets every session Forgets long-term constraints Shifts tone unpredictably Produces slightly different reasoning each time For content generation, that’s fine. For systems that require consistency — it’s a problem. The Real Problem: Reasoning Drift If you’ve built an LLM product, you’ve seen this. You define a system prompt carefully. You add guardrails.
