We had a conversation recently where I realized the gap between where I am with AI and where most people are -- even smart technical people -- is a canyon. Not a gap. What the Numbers Actually Say 1.1 billion people use AI tools globally. That's 13.3% of the world population. 31% of Americans have never tried any AI tool. Not even ChatGPT. Among active users, productivity gains vary by 6x between power users and average users. And only 5% of regular AI users do anything transformative with it. Most use it for search and summarizing. Layers of Competency Even within people who "use AI," there are massive differences in how they use it. My sister uses ChatGPT and sends it prompts like "make it better." No context, no direction.
