Web sessions have been a fundamental part of web applications for decades. They help systems remember users, maintain authentication, and track interactions across requests. For a long time, this traditional session model worked well because web applications were simple, centralized, and mostly tied to a single server. Today, web applications operate in a completely different environment. Modern systems run across cloud platforms, edge networks, browser environments, microservices, and distributed infrastructures.
