
MCP Server Monetization 2026
Something has been bothering me about MCP and I think I've figured out what the issue is :) There are tens of thousands of MCP Servers listed in registries and marketplaces, but most of them are not really useful... Good implementations exist, but then they were typically authored by companies with some form of vested interest, in that they want your AI Agent to work smoothly with their products (think AWS, GitHub, Stripe). Makes sense. The root cause, I think, is that developers of MCP Servers cannot earn from their work, so they only put so much effort into it. Typically, you might encounter an MCP Server which connects to an existing commercial product and this MCP Server uses a Bring-Your-Own-API-Key mechanism.
