What Is OSINT and Why Does It Matter? Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) is the collection and analysis of information from publicly available sources. This includes social media profiles, public records, domain registration data, court filings, corporate filings, and metadata embedded in documents and images. OSINT does not involve hacking or unauthorized access. Everything comes from sources anyone can reach. I recently earned my OSINT certification, and it reinforced something I have known for years: most people vastly underestimate how much of their digital footprint is publicly accessible.
