Accessibility as an Architectural Principle: Designing Inclusive Systems from the Ground Up

Many teams treat accessibility as a late-stage compliance task, creating costly accessibility debt. This article argues for an architectural approach where accessibility is embedded directly into design systems through semantic tokens, enforceable component APIs, and automated tooling. By making accessibility a structural constraint aligned with WCAG 2.2 standards, teams can build interfaces that are more consistent, maintainable, and inclusive from the start.
